Tonight BourbonBlog.com joined Four Roses on the Belle of Louisville for the Great Steamboat Race 2011, a tradition that dates back to 1963.
We rode the Belle of Louisville to a victory against the Belle of Cincinnati (Be watching here on BourbonBlog.com for the complete video segment coming soon!) Thus, drinking Four Roses leads to a smooth and mellow victory no matter what ship you’re sailing or racing.
The race was rescheduled from its original date during Kentucky Derby week due to the high waters. This rescheduling gave us a second chance to sample thee Four Roses Single Barrel Specially Selected for the 2011 Great Steamboat Race, which we originally drank at the “Four Roses Social at the Silks.”
According to Al Young, Four Roses Bourbon Ambassador, “This selection has a little more oak on the taste it and is aged a bit longer than the original Four Roses Single Barrel.”
Each boats had a sports theme came with a theme of U of L fans, the Great Steamboat Race proved to be worth the wait.

The Silver Antlers returned to the Belle of Louisvile for this 48th annual race. This became the last Kentucky Derby Festival event of the season.
Adding to the fun of the evening was University of Louisville vs. University of Kentucky theme to the Steamboats. To celebrate the rivalry, the Belle of Cincinnati was temporarily renamed the “Belle of Kentucky” sported a Wildcat theme. Our Belle of Louisville boasted a U. of L. theme complete with the official Cardinal Bird Mascot aboard.
We ended the evening with a toast to Four Roses with Hideki Horiguchi President/CEO of Four Roses.
