The Venetian, Las Vegas tells BourbonBlog.com they just opened The Bourbon Room, Las Vegas’ new ‘80s themed bar complete with cocktails that turn back the clock. Some additional news fit for a double shot of whiskey: a resident engagement of the rockin’ hit musical “Rock of Ages” that inspired it all will perform live on stage at The Venetian starting in mid-December 2012 with tickets on sale this summer.

The Bourbon Room gives a backstage pass to the hottest scene in Vegas with resident VJs cranking out feel-good tunes from the ‘80s and accompanying music videos. A talented crew of cocktail servers take to the stage several times a night in sexy and fun performances while guests sing along to their favorite songs.
Inspired by the legendary Sunset Strip club in the Broadway smash hit, “Rock of Ages,” the Bourbon Room promises to give partiers the opportunity to enjoy the finest collection of bourbon and spirits in Las Vegas and be entertained by music video flashbacks to nostalgic rock music from the totally
rad ‘80s.
“We were all blown away by ‘Rock of Ages’ in New York, along with everyone in the theatre,” John Caparella, president and chief operating officer of The Palazzo, The Venetian and Sands Expo
Center tells BourbonBlog.com. “After seeing the show, we knew we had to bring Broadway’s biggest party to Las Vegas, and also had to create the ultimate ‘80s experience for our guests at The Venetian by bringing th Bourbon Room to life.”
“Rock of Ages,” the worldwide smash hit that features a raucous mix of 28 eyebrow-scorching tunes is set in L.A.’s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, ”Rock of Ages” tells the story of Drew, a boy can take a trip back into the ‘80s and enjoy Bartles & Jaymes flavored wine coolers.
Unique bourbon flights paired with maple glazed popcorn and bacon jerky and drink highlights like “Boilerrockers,” a twist on a Boilermaker consisting of a glass of beer and a shot of bourbon.
Other signature cocktails include, and find a few recipes below:
• The “Perfect Date” with date-infused Woodford Reserve, sweet and dry vermouth
• The “Big Apple” with Knob Creek, apple liqueur, apple purée and granny smith apple
• “Mint Julep from Hell” with jalapeno-infused Knob Creek, fresh mint and powdered sugar.
VJs at the Bourbon Room start spinning classic rock hits and music videos at 8 pm every night while leather and lace-clad cocktail servers perform high-energy dance routines to iconic songs including “I Love Rock n’ Roll” by Joan Jett. During the day, guests can sip on classic bourbon cocktails while playing slots at the bar.
Mint Julep from Hell
2.5 oz jalapeno infused Knob Creek
Fresh mint (4 leaves to muddle and 1 spring to garnish)
2 tablespoons honey water muddled with mint
Splash of water
Powdered sugar
Mix together honey water muddled with mint, Knob Creek Bourbon infused with jalapeno and water. Fill glass with crushed ice and pour mixture over top. Sprinkle top of ice with powdered sugar. Garnish with a mint sprig.
Moonshine Cocktail
Moonshine Corn Whiskey, Vermouth Bianco, Maraschino Cherry
2.5 oz Moonshine Clear Corn Whiskey
1 oz vermouth bianco
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 maraschino cherry
Stir all together for 30 seconds in a mixing glass. Strain using julep strainer into chilled Martini glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry (served up, also available on the rocks).
Perfect Date
2.5 oz Date Infused Woodford Reserve Bourbon
0.5 oz sweet vermouth
0.5 oz dry vermouth
1 dash Angostura Bitters
1/4 caramelized Fig (fresh cut fig in 4 pieces, sprinkled with sugar and caramelized with torch)
Stir all together for 30 seconds. Strain into chilled Martini glass using julep strainer. Garnish with a ¼ caramelized Fig (also available on the rocks).
Peach
Bulleit Bourbon, Peach Puree, Sweet Vermouth, Fee Bros. Orange Bitters
•2.5 oz Bulleit Bourbon
•1 oz peach puree
•0.5 oz sweet red vermouth
•Dash of Fee Brothers orange bitters
Fill a mixing glass with ice. Measure in the Bourbon, peach puree and vermouth. Add a dash of bitters. Cap and shake.Strain into large martini glass. Garnish with gold gilded maraschino cherry* on a pick. *old gilded maraschino cherries
•1/2 cup maraschino cherries – Drain well, then dry on paper towels
•1/4 teaspoon
Gold Luster Dust – available at cake decorating stores or on-line. Make the cherries in the container in which you are going to store them. It is important that the cherries are well drained.Place the cherries in the container and add the luster dust. Stir gently to coat cherries in gold. Store refrigerated for up to 3 days
