BourbonBlog.com invites you to Whisky Live New York on April 9, 2014 to sample a vast array of whiskies when Whisky Live, a grand tasting event that Whisky Magazine produces in dozens of international cities, comes to Chelsea Piers.
This year marks the 10 year anniversary of Whisky Live NY. Master distillers, brand ambassadors and industry experts will be pouring over 300 whiskies.
The tasting has tripled in size since its 2004 debut, an intimate evening at the original Tavern on the Green. Whisky Live NY is not only a prime opportunity to try premium single malt Scotches, bourbons, ryes and Irish whiskeys, but a chance to ask distillers about their work and the industry in general. As of early March, brands that will be featured include titans like Glenmorangie, Laphroaig and Johnnie Walker side by side with dozens of spirits produced by boutique distilleries, like ABCD and ABCD, and award- winning new world whiskies from places like India, France, Japan and Australia.
The evening also includes a lavish bourbon-themed dinner buffet sponsored by Four Roses Bourbon and Bourbon Country, Kentucky’s tourism alliance.
“Whisky Live has been a tremendous success around the world since it started in 2000 in Tokyo and London. We’re excited to bring it to Manhattan for a landmark tenth year,” says Rob Allanson, Editor of Whisky Magazine, the British publication available in seven languages. “It’s been incredible to watch the whisky industry grow so radically over the past decade. And if any city has shown love for the spirit and all the style, heritage and diversity it embodies, it’s New York. With all the historic pubs, creative whiskey bars, top-rate liquor retailers and the increasing number of fantastic craft distilleries, New York is America’s most exciting whiskey-loving cities right now.”
Whisky Live is part of Tartan Week NYC, a week-long event that features art exhibits, concerts, parties, fashion shows, a 10K road race through Central Park and, of course, the annual Tartan Day Parade down 6th Avenue (Saturday, April 6). See www.tartanweek.com for more details. Whisky Live New York takes place on April 9 at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers, 23rd River.

American whiskey exports topped $1 billion in 2013, up from $350 million 10 years ago. Companies are expanding historic Scotch distilleries—adding equipment just to keep up with the global demand for single malt Scotch. The American craft distilling scene has exploded—growing from about 100 distilleries in 2007 to over 400 today. There are about 40 that are producing spirits throughout New York alone.
