Stolen PappyFor the first time since the beginning of the Pappy theft investigation, Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton tells BourbonBlog.com that he believes he talked has talked the “Pappy Thief” during the investigation.

Listen to the podcast above as Sheriff Melton tells BourbonBlog.com about the ongoing investigation including interviews his detectives have conducted with Buffalo Trace employees. While the sheriff may know who the culprit is, he admits that having all the evidence to prove it at this point may be a different story. However, Melton believes that progress is being made and welcomes tips.

A $10,000 reward is still on the table if information you provide the authorities leads to the capture and conviction of the thief (see below for contact details on how to report).

Melton says he believes the stolen Pappy has either been sold or consumed and is not resting in a secret location.

In October 2013, an investigation started after more than $26,000 of rare bourbon was reported stolen from Buffalo Trace Distillery. Among the stolen whiskey was 65 cases – with three bottles per case – of Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 20 Year bourbon and nine bottles of Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye.

Melton was reelected as Franklin County Sheriff in November 2014.
