While there hasn’t been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978, Governor Steve Beshear told BourbonBlog.com in a interview that he thinks American Pharoah could become a Triple Crown winner.
The next Triple Crown race is in two weeks at the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, Maryland on May 16. The Belmont Stakes follow on June 6 in Elmont, New York.
Derby Day showed record attendance of 170,513 at Churchill Downs. On Oaks Day, 123,763 people attended. Both crowds enjoyed perfect spring weather in the mid-70s.
