We’ll soon be partnering Anthony Caporale; creator of the Off-Broadway hit The Imbible and of Art of the Drink,  to bring you online segments where we make cocktails live during the 7 pm shift-change in New York.

As Anthony and I will both be in two separate locations during these live episodes, be watching for updates on BourbonBlog.com on this and subscribe to our newsletter for updates.

In the meantime, I wanted to share this new cocktail from the award-winning producer and mixologist Anthony Caporale…

I came up with this DIY cocktail concept during our quarantine in New York. When the stay-at-home order was first issued, I decided to dust off my breadmaker and hone my baking skills. And also stop shaving my beard.

As I was searching for sourdough starter recipes and beard oil, I found out everyone else on the planet also had both of these ideas. But the bread has been delicious, and the beard excellent at catching crumbs, so worthwhile efforts in my opinion. I was also able to break out some wonderful craft jams and jellies that I’d collected over the years and soon found myself sipping a #Bourbon while pondering how to get the last remnants out of several annoyingly not-quite-empty jelly jars. This cocktail was my solution.

Jelly Jar Old Fashioned

In a jelly jar that’s as empty as you’re reasonably going to get it, add:

  • 4 oz. Maker’s Mark Bourbon. (Or any whiskey. Or any spirit for that matter. Relax and use what you have.)
  • Fasten the lid and shake the jar until all the jelly has been dissolved, add
    • Ice cubes (As many as you can fit and still fasten the lid. Or the last two in your freezer. Relax and make the drink.)
  • Fasten the lid again and shake for at least 30 seconds to chill and dilute the spirit, add:
    • 2 dashes Bitters
  • Relax and enjoy straight from the jar!

Note: The size of the jar should be clearly marked on the label, so just eyeball the Bourbon based on that. If you use too much…you get a bigger drink. Relax and stop watching YouTube Mixologists with medicine droppers and digital scales.

Get-Creative Version

  • In a jelly jar that’s as empty as you’re reasonably going to get it, add:
    • 4 oz. Añejo Mezcal
  • Fasten the lid and shake the jar until all the jelly has been dissolved, add:
    • A squeeze of fresh Lemon Juice (Or as much as you like. Relax….)
    • 2 fresh Mint Leaves
    • Ice cubes (As many as you can fit and still fasten the lid.)
  • Fasten the lid again and shake for at least 30 seconds to chill and dilute the spirit, add:
    • 2 dashes Fee Brothers, Inc. Aztec Chocolate Bitters
  • Enjoy straight from the jar!
