Hard Truth Bourbon Double Oaked

Hard Truth Distilling Co. of Nashville, Indiana tells BourbonBlog.com they have released a new addition to their America’s Original Barrel Smoked Whiskey line: Sipes’ Barrel Smoked Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Hard Truth finishes blends, and bottles this whiskey at its state-of-the art craft distillery in Brown County, Indiana.

Available in 750 mL bottles, Sipes’ Barrel Smoked Straight Bourbon Whiskey is bottled at 90 proof with a 45% ABV. The limited edition, high-quality bourbon is available at all seven Big Woods locations and Hard Truth Hills for $67.99 plus tax. The product will begin to roll out at select local retailers next week.

Hard Truth is pioneering its way to unique flavors through a proprietary smoked barrel finishing process applied to this and other America’s Original Barrel Smoked Whiskey products. Today’s release is an offshoot of the Sipes’ Straight Bourbon Whiskey line introduced in August 2020. This first barrel smoked variant trades rum barrels for custom-smoked ones in the finishing process, creating a complex and balanced whiskey with a beautifully nuanced smoke character not found in other whiskeys on the market.

This first iteration of Hard Truth Distilling Co.’s Sipes’ Barrel Smoked Straight Bourbon Whiskey is said to have a tawny appearance with an aroma characterized by toasted pecan, smoked almond, and caramelized sugar with notes of stone fruit, vanilla, and brown sugar-glazed ham.

On the palate, the distillery says to expect bursts of wood smoke and maple sweetness lead into pipe tobacco, leather, clove, and oak followed by hints of orchard fruit, corn, honey, and bread. The surprisingly long, peppery finish features elements of warm baking spices, maple candy, black peppercorn, and smoldering embers.
