Dark Horse Brewing Perkulator Coffee Doppelbock ReviewSome coffee beers we review at seem more often than not disappointing. Questions we ask are, “Is there too much or too little coffee?” , “Is it real coffee in this brew?”¬† Dark Horse Brewing Company’s is 7.5% ABV, but the sweetness seems to hide the alcohol. Color pours a cloudy deep dark brown, a bit lighter than a coffee. Nose smells like the coffee left on a burner in your local diner with a candy sweetness.

The flavor is on sweet side and reminds me of an hard espresso French candy I had when I was younger. Tiny hints of raisin with some roasted malts and light caramel.

Mouthfeel is smooth, surprisingly not as sticky as imagined. If it weren’t for all the sugar in the coffee, the java might feel more authentic. It is an ok beer and definitely recommended if you like super sweet brews.

Would be paired well with starchy items, potato soups, some cheeses, possibly a pizza, or on it’s own as after dinner pair with cheesecake.

Dark Horse Brewing Company tells that they did a contest and opened it up to the public for the label on this beer. They had so many¬† entries that we couldn’t just pick one winner so they have 2 lables for this beer that they stager between.

Dark Horse Brewing Company’s Perkulator Coffee Dopplebock is 7.5%, and brewed in Marshall, Michigan, United States.
