Maple Wood Finish a this year’s Master’s Collection Bourbon by Woodford Reserve which BourbonBlog.com is among the first to review in the world. Bottles are set to star hitting shelves in limited quantities by November 201 with a suggested retail price of $89.99.
The Master’s Collection Maple Wood Finish uniquely finish-ages Woodford Reserve in a toasted (not charred) maple wood barrel. This is the Bourbon industry’s first bourbon to be finish aged in barrels made from sugar maple wood.
Bourbon: Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection – Maple Wood Finish
Distillery: Woodford Reserve Distillery, Versailles, Kentucky
Proof: 94 Proof, 47.2% ABV
Color: Golden Brown
Nose: Luscious glazed baked apricots that have been sprinkled with a dusting of cinnamon. Layers of brown sugar with a smooth slightly herbal-like cocoa.
Taste: Maple syrup hits on the front palette followed by a slightly spicey sweetness. The syrpu feel on this is distinct but light and flows into backnotes of warm berries and honey, almost as though they have been spread on a pastry. This is all rounded by a touch of nuttiness. It’s the Woodford Reserve Bourbon flavors you know and love with the added bonus in this creation by Master Distiller Chris Morris.
Finish:
The maple syrup lingers, but not in a heavy was as though you’ve just had a sticky sweet drenched pankcake. The linger is crisp, fresh and the sugars melt gently on the tongue.

That sounds amazing. How can we find out if they’ll be selling these bottles in our area? (Mine happens to be NY!)

Bought two bottles! One to collect and one to enjoy!!! Taste tested against the normal Woodford Reserve bourbon. The Maple Wood Finish is smoother with the wonderful taste of maple syrup! A truely remarkable and distinctively different taste!!! God I wish this wasn’t a limited batch!!!! Get two bottles cause you’ve got to try this to truely appreciate it!!! And no; I don’t work for them!!! Matter fact; I would classify myself as a bourbon newbie!!! I really prefer the smoothness of Irish whiskey but the Maple Wood Finish is even smoother than my favorite Tullamore Dew!!! I am a Kentuckian, though; the home of fast woman and beautiful horses!!!! And great bourbon!

A very interesting experiment. This is a lovely whiskey which enters new ground. Picture a robust complex 12 yr old Willett (or Woodford!) crossed with George Dickel # 12. This does interesting alternations of sweet and dry on the palate. A really good one!
