Silk Velvet Bourbon Whiskey, a legendary name in Henderson’s bourbon history, tells BourbonBlog.com they are making their official comeback tomorrow, Monday, December 9, 2024.
Originally crafted in 1880, Silk Velvet Whiskey is returning to shelves thanks to the dedication of the Hargis family – Mark Hargis and his sons, Zach and Zeb.
This highly anticipated launch brings a 6-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey back to life, honoring both Henderson, Kentucky’s rich bourbon heritage and the innovation of modern distilling.
A Bourbon Legacy Revived
Silk Velvet was first introduced by Colonel A.S. Winstead in the late 19th century, becoming a celebrated part of Henderson’s history. Now, more than a century later, the Hargis family has teamed up with Jacob Call, an 8th-generation master distiller, to craft a bourbon that balances tradition and refinement.
Distilled and aged at Western Kentucky Distilling Co. in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, Silk Velvet is expertly crafted using a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley.
Aged in new white oak barrels with a #4 char level, it will offer a rich, full-bodied flavor.
The Launch Event: Dec 9th at Beverage Barn
To celebrate its return, a special launch event will be held tomorrow, Monday, December 9, at Beverage Barn (510 Barret Blvd, Henderson, KY) from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Attendees will have the chance to meet Mark, Zach, and Zeb Hargis, along with Jacob Call, and hear the story behind Silk Velvet’s revival.
There will also be bottle signings to commemorate the occasion.
Some bars and restaurants in Henderson, including Hometown Roots (pictured at top), offered patrons an exclusive first taste of Silk Velvet Bourbon Whiskey over the past weekend.
This special preview allowed local bourbon enthusiasts to experience the revived spirit ahead of its official public release. The event generated excitement and buzz around Henderson, giving the community an early opportunity to celebrate this historic comeback.
Where to Buy
From December 9th onward, Silk Velvet Bourbon Whiskey will be available at liquor stores throughout Henderson.
This local-first approach honors the brand’s roots in the community where it all began. For those outside of Henderson, bottles can be ordered online at silkvelvetwhiskey.com, and the brand plans to expand its reach to more states in early 2025.
Silk Velvet’s return is more than a product launch—it’s a celebration of Henderson’s bourbon legacy and a tribute to the craft of Kentucky distilling.
