Heaven Hill Double Mash Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon label and bottle

Heaven Hill Distillery tells BourbonBlog.com they are introducing a new take on Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon by bringing together two of its established mashbills in one nine-year-old release.

Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond Double Mash combines traditional rye-recipe Bourbon with wheated Bourbon. The limited nationwide release will arrive beginning in August 2026 at a suggested retail price of $49.99.

It carries a nine-year age statement and is bottled at the required Bottled-in-Bond strength of 100 proof.

Despite the name, “Double Mash” does not refer to a secondary barrel finish. Instead, it describes the combination of two separately produced Bourbon mashbills.

What Are Those Two Heaven Hill Bourbon Mashbills in One Bottle?

Heaven Hill Double Mash consists of:

  • Two-thirds traditional Bourbon: 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley
  • One-third wheated Bourbon: 68% corn, 20% wheat and 12% malted barley

Both components were aged for nine years before being brought together for the final release.

The traditional Bourbon portion is designed to contribute structure, spice and richness, while the wheated Bourbon adds a softer and more rounded character.

According to Heaven Hill, the whiskey was produced and bottled in accordance with the requirements of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897.

Why Heaven Hill Created Double Mash

Wheated Bourbon has become one of the most sought-after styles in American whiskey, but it is not recognized as a separate legal whiskey classification. It remains Bourbon, with wheat replacing rye as the primary flavoring grain.

That distinction gave Heaven Hill the opportunity to combine its traditional and wheated Bottled-in-Bond Bourbons while releasing the final whiskey as Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

“At Heaven Hill, innovation begins with a deep respect for tradition,” Heaven Hill Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll said in announcing the release.

O’Driscoll described Double Mash as an expression of the distillery’s knowledge of both Bourbon production and the Bottled-in-Bond standards that have defined American whiskey quality for more than a century.

Heaven Hill Double Mash Tasting Notes

Heaven Hill tells BourbonBlog.com the new Bourbon as has a warm amber appearance and the following profile:

Aroma: Toasted oak, honey and white pepper
Palate: Honey, citrus oil and rich Bourbon flavors
Finish: Caramel and baking spices

The nine years of maturation should provide substantial oak and depth, while the wheated component may soften some of the sharper spice traditionally associated with a rye-recipe Bourbon.
